Stage actress Kuda Mapeza talks about her journey from the Bell Shakespeare John Bell scholarship to landing her role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

“How far that little candle throws his beams!

To be surrounded by actors that are brimming with talent, and are so generous with their time, knowledge and support — it made me feel like I was on the right path.

I grew up on the Gold Coast and I was a John Bell Scholarship recipient in 2017. The impact the scholarship has had on my life has been immense! Specifically, it has instilled in me that all things theatre, all things art, are up for discussion and there is something so liberating about that.

Since the John Bell Scholarship, I auditioned and got cast in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, something that I thought was a very beautiful, very wild dream.

The week I spent in Sydney was life-changing and it made me feel like I was on the right path. I spent time with professional actors, talking to them about what they are doing and why it matters – they were so supportive!”
